Kauai Vacation, Cont.

We stayed at a resort in Po'ipu on the South shore. There were a clusters of resorts in Po'ipu so the beaches there were often crowded with sunbathers. Since Cory and I got sunburned we didn't sunbath very much!





This is Tunnels beach on the North shore, one of our favorites for snorkeling! The Tunnels reef is so large that it can be seen from space! It certainly took us a long time to snorkel around Tunnels.
This is the amazing view for the end of Waimea Canyon, the Pu'u o Kila Lookout of part of the Napali coast. This picture cannot even capture of fraction of the beauty of this sight.
This picture was taken from another lookout point in the Waimea Canyon and depicts part of the Waimea Canyon. The Waimea is called the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific." This canyon is 10 miles long, 1 mile wide and 3,600 feet deep (Which is pretty amazing considering how small the island is).
This is Queen's Bath on the North shore. We wish we could have swam in this pool!


Apparently someone took the major effort to dump an old golf cart by Queen's Bath. A guy hiking behind us kept yelling, "You've gotta get a picture with the pink golf cart!" So we did! (Plus Cory matched it with his pink shirt!)


Queen's Bath can be really dangerous during the winter when the swells are large and can rip you out to sea!












One of Kau'ai's interesting features is the vast amount of chickens and roosters that populate the island! They really are everywhere and you have to be careful not to run them over when driving! They are also quite brave and persistent when you start eating your lunch on the beach!

Kauai Vacation

Last week Cory and I went on our belated honeymoon vacation to Kauai, a beautiful island in Hawaii. We choose to just vacation in Kauai the whole time instead of island hopping because of all the 'outdoorsy' activities available on Kauai. We thought it was funny when the man who was checking us in for our flights in SLC said 'I hope you're just planning on relaxing for a week because you can see the whole island in a day." Obviously he hasn't read "The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook!" After reading that guidebook I felt like we'd have to stay for a month to get a good sample of the island!
Our favorite activity was the the helicopter tour of the island! You can only see the majority of the island by helicopter. We opted to go in a hughes, which fits 4 passengers plus the pilot. You get more of an authentic experience because the doors are all off!

This is a part of the Waimea canyon.This is inside the Kilohana Crater, the wettest spot on earth! The only way to see it is by helicopter. There were so many waterfalls, it was amazing!
